Agriculture Committee
Jurisdiction: Federal agriculture policy. Sixty-five percent of the matters dealt within this committee are nutrition-based such as regulation and oversight of programs like Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) & Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP). I am the Ranking Member of the subcommittee on Department Operations, Oversight, and Credit, and serve on the subcommittee on Conservation, Energy, and Forestry.
Ranking Member: Subcommittee on Department Operations, Oversight, & Credit
This subcommittee is responsible for oversight of U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), reviews and analyzes agriculture credit issues, and conducts special investigations of U.S. Department of Agriculture and other subsidiaries.
Subcommittee on Conservation, Energy, & Forestry
This subcommittee is responsible for oversight of all agricultural matters relating to soil, water, and resource conservation, review and analyze energy and biobased energy production, regulate rural electrification, and jurisdiction over matters involving the U.S. Forestry Service.”
Committee on Science, Space and Technology
Jurisdiction: The Committee has jurisdiction over much of the non-defense Federal research and development (R&D) portfolio.
Subcommittee on Space and Aeronautics - Legislative jurisdiction and general oversight and investigative authority on all matters relating to astronautical research and development

JOBS BILLS
H.R.2742 : Hire, Train, Retain Act of 2011
Summary: The legislation allows non-governmental employers an exemption from employment taxes for hiring certain unemployed individuals who are trained by such employers in a qualified job training program (an in-house program providing specific training for available jobs offered by such employers), and allow an employer an increase in the business-related tax credit for each worker retained by such employer who was employed on any date during the taxable year for a period of not less than 52 consecutive weeks.
H.R.2869 : School Athletic Facilities Restoration Act of 2011
Summary: In the bill, the Secretary is authorized to make grants, on a competitive basis, to local educational agencies for the construction, renovation, or repair of school facilities that are primarily used for physical education, athletic contests or exhibitions, or athletic extracurricular activities, such as team sports. The funds made available should be used to supplement, and not supplant, any other Federal, State, or local funds available for construction, renovation, or repair of school facilities.
H.R.2539 : National Youth Summer Jobs Act of 2011
Summary: The bill directs the Secretary of Labor to award 5-year competitive grants to eligible local government units to provide summer employment, including job readiness activities, work experiences, and job placement, for out-of-school youths age 14 to 21 who are enrolled in a public or private secondary school or have received a secondary school diploma or its equivalent but are basic-skills deficient, unemployed, or underemployed.

H.R.2540 : Voter Protection Hotline Act of 2011
Summary: The legislation directs the Attorney General (AG) to establish and operate a toll-free telephone service, using a telephone number accessible throughout the United States, through which individuals may: (1) obtain information on voting in elections for federal office, including how to register to vote, the hours of operation of polling places, and how to obtain absentee ballots; and (2) report problems encountered in registering to vote or voting, including incidences of voter intimidation or suppression.

Summary: This bill is a comprehensive approach to combating childhood obesity by seeking to expand the offering of fruits and vegetables in low-income communities as well as encouraging exercise.
H.R.2818 : No Child Left Outside Act of 2011
Summary: To provide temporary housing during school breaks to students who are homeless or in foster care.
H.RES.339 : National Childhood Obesity Awareness Month
Summary: The bill expresses support for the designation of September 2011 as National Childhood Obesity Awareness Month. Over 20 organizations endorsed the legislation. The bill was also introduced last year. It passed on a bipartisan basis in the House, and was signed by the President.

H.R. 1547 – Stephanie Tubbs Jones Collegiate Housing and Infrastructure Act of 2009 – To amend the Internal Revenue Code of 1986 to provide for collegiate housing and infrastructure grants.
Supported Bills
Reauthorization of the State Children’s Health Insurance Program (SCHIP) – Provides health care coverage for 11 million children in families who do not qualify for Medicaid.
