First 100 Days in Review

 

This month I celebrated my first 100 days as a member of the 111th Congress.  I reflect on those days with great joy in all that we have accomplished and optimism for what is to come.  

Over the past 100 days, I met with district leadership, co-sponsored legislation, answered the needs of the citizens and used my vote to reflect the voices of the 11th Congresional District and this country.  Though there were many accomplishments, here are just a few highlights of my first 100 Days: FUDGE BECOMES A CONGRESSPERSON

 

  • Sworn in to 111th Congress
  • Appointed to the House Education and Labor, and Science and Technology Committees
  • Supported the reauthorization of the State Children’s Health Insurance Program (SCHIP).
    • Providing health care coverage for 11 million children  
    • Preserving coverage for the 7 million children currently covered by SCHIP
    • Extending coverage to 4 million uninsured children who are currently eligible for, but not enrolled in, SCHIP and Medicaid.
  • Voted for the Lilly Ledbetter Act
    • Making it easier for women and others to sue for pay discrimination, even if the discrimination has prevailed for years. 
  • Voted for the Recovery and Reinvestment Act providing:
    • 91,704 Ohioans with an extension to their unemployment benefits
    • 666,416 individuals with a $25 per week increase in their unemployment insurance benefits.
    • $1,725,900,000 infused into Ohio schools for student advancement, school tools and school modernization
    • An increase in Pell Grants by $500, for a maximum of $5350 in 2009 and $5550 in 2010 to affect well over 205,000 Ohioans
    • $68,140,840 in Ohio to provide child care services for 8,180 children, during a two year period, in low-income families while their parents go to work
    • An increase on the limits of unsubsidized Stafford loans by $2,000 affecting over 450, 000 Ohio students (bringing in over $900 million)  
  • Appointed Vice Chair of the Scientific Research House Sub-Committee 
  • Met with 11th Congressional District mayors, school superintendents and Cuyahoga County officials to discuss the benefits of  American Recovery and Reinvestment Act for Ohio. 
  • Voted for the Families Saving Their Homes Act
    • Providing relief to a projected 87,000 – 2009 foreclosures in Ohio
    • Potentially reducing foreclosures by 20% 
  • Announced 35 Million for Cuyahoga County Public Housing 
  • Participated in a 5 Day Legislative trip to Cuba   
  • Co-Sponsored legislation to give all Americans the ability to travel to Cuba.
